Matt and Emily met on a mission trip to West Africa more than a decade ago. Their long-held desire has been to one day serve full-time on the mission field. After years of praying and seeking the Lord’s guidance, they are both excited and humbled to follow His call to Davao City, Philippines.

Emily will serve as a missionary midwife apprentice, studying through Newlife International School of Midwifery and serving at Mercy Maternity Center. Midwifery provides a unique and powerful opportunity to build relationships with expectant mothers and their families—relationships that open doors to share the Gospel. Emily’s heart has long been for mothers and babies, and she is eager to build on her nursing background to become a compassionate and capable midwife. She first served as an intern at Mercy the summer after graduating nursing school, and it has held a special place in her heart ever since.

Matt will be caring for their son and supporting Emily in her studies. He is also exploring opportunities to teach, assist healthcare ministries, and serve through the local church. Having spent several years studying and preparing to support medical missions, Matt is looking forward to putting that preparation into practice.
